In an interview with a Tubantia editor about the succession, Eelco said the following:
‘Fortunately, my father was able to let go of the transfer very well. In retrospect, that was a good thing, because then you have the freedom to set up the company the way you want. Two captains on one ship, that doesn’t work. When we had been to the notary for the transfer, he literally drove home afterwards, and I drove to the business.’
‘My father of course remained involved and interested in the background. For example, he was present at the Theaterhotel when we won the EnergiekAlmelo Awards. He still comes to the business occasionally, but is otherwise not actively involved in the ins and outs.’
