In 1985, through the takeover of Machinefabriek Boessenkool, Maarten Osse took over from Nico Boessenkool. There is a nice story behind that takeover because Nico Boessenkool absolutely did not want to sell it to a stranger and did the sale anonymously, quietly and in the background so that as few people as possible knew that it was for sale at all.
Jan ter Beek was Maarten’s father-in-law and Nico Boessenkool’s neighbor. He tipped off his son-in-law when he heard about the sale of the machine factory. Maarten in turn was born in Meersen and lived and worked in IJsselstein at the time. Together with 2 partners he had his own machine factory there. There the opinions of the partners about the future seemed to drift further and further apart and the time was ripe for Maarten to consider a next step.
In this way, Machinefabriek Boessenkool remained in trusted hands and the takeover was a fact after a short time. Another nice detail: the machine factory in IJsselstein became a supplier of Boessenkool many years later!
