Boessenkool

1910 Moving and growing

Photo taken around 1925.

Around 1910 the company moved to the Veemarkt. A few years later Boessenkool also bought the old spinning mill De Armoede, which was located on the Bornerbroeksestraat, diagonally opposite the Kolkschool. The machine factory was located in the back and the garage in the front.

How useful it was to have a machine factory with a garage became apparent during the Second World War. At that time the company made gasifiers for commercial vehicles. The assembly and maintenance of these gas pots provided a lot of work during the war.

Business was going well, it was outgrowing its premises and that is why an extra floor was added on top of the building for work and office space. In 1946 the company was expanded even further and the adjacent building was also purchased.

What started in 1902 as a garage repair company had become mainly a production and repair company after 1948. The turnover consisted largely of the supply of all kinds of products (including for the Dikker Hengelo company) and the manufacture of all kinds of components such as letterboxes, post boxes and cable cabinets for the State-owned PTT company.
